30 minutes to prep, 20 to cook. These chocolate croissant bread snacks combine a soft, buttery dough with a rich cocoa layer, filled with melty milk chocolate chips and hazelnut spread. The airy croissant shape is baked first in a conventional oven and finished crisp in an air fryer for a perfectly golden crust. Ideal for a quick indulgent snack or a festive brunch treat.

Method

  1. 1

Place the flour in a mixing bowl and make a well in the center.

  2. 2

Add the yeast, sugar, lukewarm water, and milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Mixture becomes foamy.

  3. 3

Add the egg white and vegetable oil, then knead into a soft dough (the amount of flour needed may vary depending on the type of flour).

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into two equal portions.

  5. 5

To one portion, add the cocoa powder, water, and vegetable oil. Knead until the cocoa is fully incorporated.

  6. 6

Cover both doughs and let them rise until doubled in size.

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Dough has doubled in size. Cover with a damp cloth and place in a warm, draft-free spot.

  7. 7

Roll the cocoa dough into a 25 × 25 cm square.

  8. 8

Place the plain dough on top and roll both together into a 60 × 50 cm rectangle.

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Rectangle is even in thickness. Use a light dusting of flour to prevent sticking.

  9. 9

Cut the chocolate dough into strips using a pizza cutter.

  10. 10

Sprinkle milk chocolate chips evenly over the surface.

  11. 11

Press the chocolate chips into the dough to ensure they adhere.

  12. 12

Cut the dough into 8 triangles.

  13. 13

Spread hazelnut spread onto each triangle.

  14. 14

Place a spoonful of hazelnut spread at the wide end of each triangle and roll them up into croissant shapes.

  15. 15

Arrange them on a baking tray and let them rise again until doubled in size.

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Croissants have doubled in size. They should look puffy and light.

  16. 16

Brush with the reserved egg yolk and sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts if desired.

  17. 17

Bake in a preheated 350°F (356°F) fan‑forced oven until golden brown.

  18. 18

Preheat the Air Fryer to 325°F for 3‑5 minutes.

  19. 19

Place the unbaked croissant dough into the air fryer basket, arranging multiple croissants with space between them.

  20. 20

Brush the croissants with the reserved egg yolk.

  21. 21

Air fry at 325°F for 10‑12 minutes, or until beautifully golden brown and fully cooked.

Kitchen notes · Added by ReelsMeals: Golden brown and cooked through.

  22. 22

If they brown too quickly, loosely cover them with a piece of foil for the last few minutes.

  23. 23

Sprinkle chopped nuts over the baked croissants.
