Method

  1. 1

Heat a large pan over medium‑high heat and add the 3 lb lean ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks until browned.

  2. 2

Add the diced onion and season with 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, and 1 tsp paprika; stir until the onion softens and the spices are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

When the beef is fully browned, stir in the tomato sauce (1 can), fire‑roasted tomatoes (2 cans), diced green chilis (2 cans), Bush’s Chili Magic (3 cans), and brown sugar (½ cup); mix until everything is fully incorporated.

  4. 4

Cover the pan and let the chili simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

Remove the pan from heat and portion the chili into eight food‑storage containers (about 2.5 cups each).

  6. 6

Allow the containers to cool to room temperature, then store them in the refrigerator or freezer. Reheat in the microwave before serving.

Tips while you cook

Brown the beef thoroughly
Cook the ground beef until fully browned before adding any vegetables or liquids.
Stir during simmer
Stir the chili occasionally while it simmers for 20 minutes to prevent sticking.
Portion while hot then cool
Divide the chili into containers right after cooking, then let them reach room temperature before refrigerating or freezing.
