Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 425°F (upper and lower heat).

  2. 2

Heat the butter or oil in a large pan over medium heat.

  3. 3

Add the small onion and sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

  4. 4

Stir in the garlic clove (or, if preferred, the garlic powder) and cook for another minute.

  5. 5

Sprinkle the cornstarch over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.

  6. 6

Pour in the cream and milk, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens slightly, about 2–3 minutes.

  7. 7

Add the uncooked pasta and broccoli florets, mixing well to combine; cook for 2 minutes to let the pasta begin to soften.

  8. 8

Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, sweet paprika, and Herbes de Provence; stir to distribute the spices.

  9. 9

Transfer the entire mixture to a baking dish, sprinkle the cheese generously on top, and bake in the preheated oven until the cheese is golden brown and the pasta is cooked through, about 20–25 minutes.

Tips while you cook

Sauté onion fully
Cook the small onion until translucent, about 3–4 minutes, before adding garlic.
Whisk dairy mixture
