Homemade Salko
- 1 hr
- Serves 4
- 4 ingredients
15 minutes to prep, 45 to cook. A traditional Slovak homemade Salko made from whole milk, brown sugar, and butter, gently reduced to a sweet, creamy drink. It can be sweetened further with extra sugar or enriched with cream for a richer flavor, making it a comforting holiday treat.
Free. No account needed.
Method
Pour the whole milk and brown sugar into a wide pot and bring to a boil.
Add the butter and stir while the mixture gently thickens.
Continue cooking, checking the consistency by placing a spoonful on a plate; it should become thicker as it cools.
If the mixture is not thick enough after about 30 minutes, add the additional 50 g of sugar and keep cooking until the desired thickness is reached.
Allow the Salko to cool, then serve. (Optional: try the recipe with cream instead of butter for an even richer texture.)
