Method

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven to 350°F.

  2. 2

Slice each Hawaiian roll in half lengthwise, keeping the tops and bottoms attached so the roll remains in one piece.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, 8 tbsp of softened butter, and 1/8 tsp of the divided salt; stir until the mixture is uniform.

  4. 4

Spread the bottom half of each roll with three‑quarters of the butter‑sugar mixture, then place the top halves back on top.

  5. 5

Arrange the assembled rolls in a lightly greased 9 × 13‑inch baking dish and spread the remaining butter‑sugar mixture over the tops.

  6. 6

Bake for 20 minutes, then let the rolls rest for 5 minutes while you prepare the icing.

  7. 7

Using a hand mixer, beat the remaining 2 tbsp butter together with the softened cream cheese, the remaining pinch of salt, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until the icing is smooth and creamy.

  8. 8

Spread the warm icing over the rolls and serve.
