20 minutes to prep, 17 to cook. These crispy, cheesy Air‑Fried Soya Jalapeño Balls are a protein‑rich festive appetizer that packs a spicy kick from jalapeños and green chillies. The soft soy‑potato interior hides a gooey cheese center, all coated in a golden breadcrumb crust.

Method

  1. 1

Soak the soya chunks in hot water until soft, then squeeze out excess water and grind into a fine mince.

  2. 2

In a bowl, combine the minced soya, grated potatoes, corn flour, green chillies, coriander, oregano, salt, and chopped jalapeños; mix well.

  3. 3

Take a small portion of the mixture, flatten it, place a piece of processed cheese in the centre, and shape into a ball, sealing tightly.

  4. 4

Prepare a corn flour slurry by mixing corn flour with water.

  5. 5

Dip each ball into the slurry and coat evenly with breadcrumbs.

  6. 6

Arrange the balls in the air fryer, lightly spray with oil, and air‑fry at 350°F for 15–17 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy (or deep‑fry if preferred).

  7. 7

Serve hot with your favourite dip.

Tips while you cook

Dry soy chunks thoroughly
Squeeze the soaked soy chunks well before grinding.
Seal cheese inside properly
Flatten a small portion of the mixture before placing cheese and shape into a ball.
Even crispness with oil spray and turning
Lightly spray the balls with oil and turn them halfway through the air‑fry time for uniform browning.
